What Is a Driver Monitoring System?

A driver monitoring system records how vehicles are being driven and, where the plan includes it, who is driving them. For a fleet, that turns an assumption that drivers are driving safely into records you can review.

FairDeal's driver monitoring works in three layers on top of GPS tracking, so you can choose the level that fits your fleet and step up later.

It works through the vehicle's tracking device. Our plans don't include dash cameras.

Use Monitoring to Coach, Not Just to Catch

Monitoring works best when drivers know about it. Agree the standards in advance, share the reports and review them regularly, so that the system is understood as a safety tool rather than a surprise.

We recommend telling drivers what is being monitored and why, and covering it in your company policy before you switch on features like in-cabin voice monitoring.

Three Levels of Driver Monitoring

Each plan includes everything in the one before it.

Driving Behaviour Alerts (Basic plan)

Overspeeding, harsh acceleration, harsh braking and harsh cornering are recorded for every vehicle, with overspeed alerts by geofence zone.

In-Cabin Voice Monitoring (Intermediate plan)

Adds voice monitoring inside the cabin, for safety follow-up and incident checks, on top of everything in Basic.

RFID Driver Identification (Advanced plan)

Drivers tap an RFID card or key fob before driving, so trips and events are logged against a named driver.

Reports by Vehicle or Driver

Pull reports by vehicle and date range, and by driver where driver identification is in use.

Driver Monitoring FAQs

Does the system use cameras?

No. Our plans monitor driving through the tracking device, with optional RFID driver identification and in-cabin voice monitoring. They don't include dash cameras.

Which plan includes driver monitoring?

Driving behaviour monitoring is included in every plan, including Basic. In-cabin voice monitoring comes with Intermediate and Advanced, and RFID driver identification with Advanced.

Can I see which driver caused an event?

Yes, with RFID driver identification on the Advanced plan, events are linked to the driver who tapped in. Without it, events are recorded against the vehicle.

Should drivers be told they are being monitored?

Yes. We recommend telling drivers what is monitored and why, and setting expectations in your company policy.

Can I get reports by driver?

With driver identification, reports can be filtered by driver, vehicle and date range.

Can I use it from my phone?

Yes. The platform is available on the web and on iOS and Android.
